After NZ guarantee, Moss might miss for Melbourne

It may well be a case of highs and lows this week for Melbourne Victory goalkeeper Glen Moss.

Following New Zealand's qualification for the 2010 World Cup, Moss was guaranteed a spot on the plane by coach Ricki Herbert despite the fact he will be ineligible for the first two group matches.

But after being on a high, knowing he will be going to South Africa, the 26-year old is in danger of being dropped from the Victory line-up.

Coach Ernie Merrick is pondering whether to give young shot-stopper Mitch Langerak an opportunity due to the fact the Victory have conceded a lot of goals this season.

"It's a consideration for all the players when you're thinking of giving some a rest," he said.

"We've got a good squad with players coming back. If you look at what clubs do internationally, there's a time where (outfield) players get dropped and they're very good players and it's no different for the goalkeeper.

"I won't postulate on who's going to be in the team. I'm not going to give anything away. We've played 14 games and we're second-top and Glen has been a major part of that."

But skipper Kevin Muscat said it was unfair to always criticise the keeper when things are not going the way you planned.

"As soon as there is adversity, individuals get pulled out and it's unfair to solely criticise the goalkeeper," Muscat said.

"The defensive line has got to take a lot of responsibility and, as a team, we've got to defend better."

The Victory take on Brisbane Roar at Suncorp Stadium tomorrow night in round 15 of A-League action.
