St Mirren midfielder Andy Dorman has signed a new 12-month contract extension. Saints' decision to take up their one-year option was a formality given the impact Dorman has made since joining from New England Revolution in January last year.

The midfielder scored four goals in five games in February, taking his tally for the club to 12.

Now Dorman is focused on sweeping away any doubts about St Mirren's top-flight status - and boosting his recently-revived international prospects in the process.

While Dorman's immediate aim is to keep St Mirren up, he is awaiting the outcome of talks between the four British football associations with interest.

The Welsh and Irish FAs have already backed the SFA's plan to allow players to represent a country where they have had at least five years of schooling.

That would allow Dorman to turn out for Wales despite being born in Chester to English parents.

Dorman was educated at Hawarden High School in North Wales, following in the footsteps of former pupils Gary Speed and Michael Owen, but was forced to end his Wales career in his teenage years.

He said: "I played under-18 schoolboys. I think it was just before the rule changed where to play for the schoolboys you had to have been born in Wales or have Welsh parents.

"I lived in Wales for 18 years and went to school there, so I would love to have the opportunity to represent them.

"I would love to play international football."
