After last night's goals we now need clean sheets - Blackburn's Kean

Blackburn Rovers last night scored four goals to defeat Newcastle United 4-3 in the fourth round of the Carling Cup - a win which is sure to ease some pressure on manager Steve Kean.

It shows the fans that the players are capable of beating quality sides (Newcastle hadn't been beaten all season) and Kean will take much heart from the performance.

But ahead of this weekend's vital Premier League meeting with Norwich City at Carrow Road, Kean is desperate for the defensive part of Blackburn's game to come shining through.

"I think what you've seen is a Blackburn team going after goals and working hard, trying to get a clean sheet that we almost had," said Kean.

"That's our main focus now, making sure we can close the back door because I think the way we play we'll always score plenty of goals.

"I think not only last night we had a great performance against Tottenham, we had a very good workmanlike performance against QPR away and I thought we were unlucky not to get three points.

"So we need performances and points, and victories. Anybody's who's a little bit negative will see the way the lads came back last night will give them a little bit of a lift.

"I don't think it's a turning point for the majority of fans but if anybody's negative they'll see how the lads were fighting for each other. They're flat on their feet at the end.

"It's going to be a tough turnaround because this is going to be a third games in six days so it's tough programme but we'll get them rested up and push them back out there against Norwich."
