After landing May, Bacup Borough want ex-Man Utd star Cole

Non-League Bacup Borough boss Brent Peters is attempting to put together a little Manchester United old boys' team together.

Peters told the Rossendale Free Press: "I have sent an email to his agent to try to set a meeting up and also contacted another agent that I know very well. It is only at the preliminary stages but who would he be playing alongside? Giggs."

That the Giggs in question is Rhodri and not the Bacup player's brother Ryan of Manchester United fame is a moot point.

But Peters is adamant he is serious about his pursuit of the veteran hot-shot, who was part of Manchester United's treble-winning team in 1999.

Peters explained: "Everybody said I had no chance of signing David May but I did. There were all sorts of rumours about what David May was being paid, but he came here not for money but to put something back into the community and he is still in contact with the club.

"It will be a great scalp if I can pull it off and I have pulled it off in the past. People think that Andy Cole will want a fortune, but sometimes you can do a deal with football people who want to give something back to the game."
