AFC reveal record viewing figures for Champions League season

The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) has revealed record viewing figures for its 2013 Champions League season as Chinese Super League club Guangzhou Evergrande claimed a historic victory at the weekend, reports Soccerex Business Daily. Guangzhou's triumph on Saturday attracted the largest TV audience for a sporting event in China this year, with an average audience totalling over 30 million.

The second leg drew an average audience of 23.68 million viewers on state broadcaster CCTV-5. And with several other channels in China also showing the game live, the match attracted the highest average audience in China since the 2004 Asian Cup final at over 30 million viewers.

In total, the AFC's commercial partner World Sport Group said the 2013 Champions League achieved a combined average rating of 280 million, with a combined reach of 1.37 billion viewers.
