Adu over the moon after Philadelphia Union debut

Freddy Adu was delighted to be back playing Major League Soccer when he took his Philadelphia Union bow on the weekend.

The former US soccer prodigy has been struggling to forge a career in Europe since he departed DC United, then Real Salt Lake back in 2007 but is glad to be back on home soil and plying his trade for the Union.

22-year old Adu, who experienced mixed emotions during his time with Benfica, AS Monaco, Belenenses, Aris Thessaloniki and Caykur Rizespor, played 62 minutes of the Union's 2-2 draw with FC Dallas and although he did nothing to write home about, he was just happy to be back.

"There's nothing better than being a professional athlete in America, man," he said.

"It was awesome. It brought back a lot of memories when I first came into the league with DC. Philly fans are great, man."

And although his performance wasn't great, Adu says he will only get better the more he gets to know his new teammates.

"When you have one training session with the team before you play, it's hard," Adu added. "But I've got to get on the same page obviously and we have to move on from this.

"We've got a great team, man. Once we all get on the same page, I think we're going to be very difficult to beat."
