Freddy Adu says he will always look back on his time spent at Benfica with plenty of fond memories.
The former DC United and Real Salt Lake forward moved to the Portuguese giants in 2007 and was able to train alongside the likes of Rui Costa, Nuno Gomes, David Luiz and Angel di Maria which he describes as an amazing experience.
"That was incredible," said Adu, who is training with English club Blackpool, in an interview for the club's official website.
"Playing with guys like Rui Costa and Gomes. David Luiz was there, di Maria was there. It was incredible. Just being around all these top players and learning, it was amazing.
"That's one of those experiences that I will always look back on and cherish because not a lot of people get to do that and I got a chance to do that when I was 18.
"It was definitely amazing although I don't think I was mature enough at the time to be with such a big club. I played, I did well, but I needed more games."
Adu had four loan spells during his time with Benfica - at Monaco, Belenenses, Aris Thessaloniki and Caykur Rizespor - before returning to MLS with Philadelphia Union in 2011.
