Adriano was welcomed to Roma yesterday by over 5,000 fans.

The supporters turned up to the Stadio Flaminio for the presentation and he promised to be in shape for the start of the season.

"I am glad to be back in Italy and to hold the Roma jersey, which carries so much responsibility," Adriano said.

"So many things have changed since I went back to Brazil. I rediscovered the happiness that I had lost, today I'm more mature and have returned to prove it.

"Many clubs sought me, not just in Italy and in England, but I chose Roma because it's similar to Rio. The fans have that same fiery nature and it has helped me so much that from the moment I arrived there has been such affection."

He continued: "The Brazilian campaign ended a month ago, so clearly I have put on a bit of weight, but I have a plan and will train regularly before the rest of the squad gets together. Everyone knows I'm a little overweight.

"I have always dealt with my problems and I know it will be a difficult challenge, but I am back to prove myself. I always like to tell the truth and in the past I did make mistakes, but I have matured and I'm not hiding away."
