Reading defender Adrian Mariappa is happy he signed for the Royals ahead of Wigan Athletic.

The two clubs face a six pointer this weekend.

The 26-year-old said: "Wigan had a bid accepted. I was tempted by Premier League football and there were two teams bidding for me.

"But I'm here now and very glad to be.

"That was the first time anyone made a bid for me and it was flattering. But I'm delighted that Reading came in for me."
