Adil Rami admits he wasn't comfortable at fullback for AC Milan in their 1-1 draw with Inter Milan.
The centre-half was played at right-back by coach Pippo Inzaghi.
"It was very tough for me, as it's the first time in my career that I have played at right-back," Rami told Sky Sport Italia.
"I played with courage, heart and wanted to give my all for Milan. We didn't have anyone for the right, so I adapted to help the team.
"I used to be a mechanic and nobody thought I could be a professional football player, so why can't I as a centre-back be a right-back?" he grinned.
"We tried to play our football, but Inter are a good team and they only scored I think due to our error. We had the chances to win this game.
"Third place? It's far away, but we have time."
