Kristian Rees was sent off for the Gold Coast on the half hour for a last man foul on Matthew Leckie, but the home side was unable to capitalise on the numerical advantage.

Despite being a man down, Gold Coast took the lead after Fitzsimmons scored in the 66th minute capitalising on good lead up play by Zenon Caravella.

The Adelaide crowd turned on coach Aurelio Vidmar in the last half hour, calling for his dismissal as Adelaide looked doomed to another home loss.

However Matthew Leckie saved one point - and possibly Vidmar's job - with a last gasp equaliser to deny Gold Coast a fairytale victory.
