Adelaide United waiting on clearance from Al-Shabab for Griffiths
Adam Griffiths is set to take his place in Adelaide United’s Asian Champions League squad but only if they get clearance from Al-Shabab.
The Saudi Arabian club hold the key for the former Newcastle Jets man to join the Reds after leaving them whilst he was under contract.
It is reported that Adelaide and the Asian Football Confederation have agreed on the Griffiths signing but now await confirmation from Al-Shabab before he becomes an official member of their ACL 2010 squad.
"Adam Griffiths is eligible to play in the ACL and his situation does not conflict with Article 31 of FIFA regulations," said an AFC spokesperson.
"The club, however, has not registered him for the 2010 edition of the ACL.
"They have up to seven days before the tournament to do so."
Al-Shabab will have to process a FIFA International Transfer Certificate before the squad’s nomination deadline next week and Reds football director Michael Petrillo said Griffiths’ fate is currently out of the A-League clubs hands.
"We can do as much as we can from our end," Petrillo said. "If the Saudi football federation don't respond in time, then he won't be registered.
"We're pretty confident the Saudis will respond. We think it's enough time to do it."
