Adelaide United's Mullen on the attack

Adelaide United right-back Daniel Mullen is planning to go on the offensive this season.

The 20-year old, who has recovered from hamstring issues which forced last season off the rails, is determined to become a more attacking player as the Reds strive for goals.

After watching this year's World Cup, Mullen says the key to providing more for the forwards is to start the attack from the back third and become dangerous that way.

"I think if you look at the World Cup, the best right and left-backs are all attacking," he told the Adelaide Advertiser.

"I think it is important to defend well but if I can get a few assists and even on the score sheet that would be good. It all goes to helping Adelaide United."

Mullen added that he is happy to put last season behind him and is looking forward to tomorrow's opener against the Newcastle Jets at Hindmarsh Stadium.

"I had niggles after the hamstring last year and it took three or four months to get over it," he added.

"I feel sharp, strong - the best shape of my career and can't wait to get going."
