Adelaide United skipper Travis Dodd says he is fine with Michael Marrone's decision to leave the club.

The versatile 23-year old has signed a deal with new A-League club Melbourne Heart but his impending departure has not left a sour taste among the players.

Marrone's situation is slightly different to the normal as he originally signed a deal with the North Queensland Fury earlier this year but after the club transferred ownership to Football Federation Australia, his contract with the Fury became void.

Despite the Reds offering Marrone a new deal, he decided to join the Heart who he will link up with after Adelaide's Asian Champions League Round of 16 clash next Wednesday, and despite this, Dodd was at ease with his exit from Hindmarsh Stadium.

"Not at all, he's not a traitor," Dodd said. "It's the side of football where players move on. It's the way the system works.

"Players are able to sign for other clubs before they finish their commitments elsewhere.

"He's a true professional and he'll definitely be giving us everything he's got before he goes away to Melbourne.

"We'll still give him crap, though," Dodd added. "We've been giving it to him for the last three months over the North Queensland stuff. It's nothing new for him.

"But I think, at the end of the day, it's unfortunate he couldn't stay at the club because he's got a lot to offer.

"And he's shown a lot through this Asian Champions League campaign.

"He's a good player. Melbourne Heart is lucky to pick him up."
