Adelaide United kicks off ACL with win over Bunyodkor

Adelaide United have scored a surprise victory in their opening match of the 2012 Asian Champions League.

The Reds recorded a 2-1 away win over Uzbekistan outfit Bunyodkor in their first Group E fixture, getting the points over Australia international David Carney and his teammates.

Defender Nigel Boogaard opened the scoring in the 13th minute with a header from a corner before Antony Golec converted from a goal mouth scramble less than ten minutes into the second half.

Bunyodkor got one back late in injury time via substitute Kamoliddin Murzoev but it was not enough as John Kosmina's men grabbed maximum points to sit behind Pohang Steelers who defeated Gamba Osaka 3-0 in the other Group F match.

Adelaide next take on Japan's Gamba at home on March 20 whilst Pohang host Bunyodkor in Korea.
