Adelaide United has produced a stunning performance in the Asian Champions League Semi-Final first leg against Bunyodkor. The Reds won 3-0 in front of just under 17,000 parochial fans and the result puts them in a commanding position going into the return leg in Tashkent, Uzbekistan on Wednesday October 22nd. At half-time, the match was locked at 0-0 with former Brazilian star Rivaldo copping some heavy treatment from the Reds defence during the first 45 minutes. However, the deadlock was broken in the 57th minute when Rivaldo's countryman, Diego, controlled well just inside the box and finished coolly, giving Adelaide the lead. It only got better for the home side when midfielder Fabian Barbiero was in the right place at the right time to finish just 19 minutes after the first goal and the match was rounded out when the Reds were awarded a penalty and Cristiano duly netted from the spot in the 89th minute. Reds coach Aurelio Vidmar was pleased with the result but was remaining wary of the Bunyodkor team. "I thought it was a fantastic effort tonight. We looked a bit jaded and they're a fantastic side," he said. "They showed us what a good football side they are but we just hung in there. "We have to be very careful. We scored three goals against them here and they're very capable of scoring three against us over there. We can't get too carried away, you might think this game is over but the tie is still alive." The Reds will now have to come down from cloud nine to focus on their next A-League game against Queensland Roar next Friday the 17th October.
