Adelaide United forced into ACL play-off against Persipura

Adelaide United has been forced into a do-or-die play-off match against Indonesian champions Persipura Jayapura for a place in the Asian champions League.

The Reds must defeat Persipura this Thursday night (16 February 2012) at Hindmarsh Stadium to retain their position in the 2012 AFC Champions League, a position the club was originally granted in the competition.

Persipura challenged their non-admittance into the ACL after the Football Association of Indonesia (PSSI) failed to enter them as they moved to a breakaway league (Indonesian Super League).

However, they appealed to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) and upon the positive result of their application have been thrown back into the ring for a possible spot in the 2012 ACL competition provided they overcome Adelaide later this week.
