Adelaide United assert authority on the A-League in Week 8

Last season's wooden spooners Adelaide United asserted their authority on the A-League with another strong win on the weekend.

The Reds swept to their fifth win in eight matches when they defeated the Perth Glory 2-0 at Hindmarsh Stadium thanks to a Sergio van Dijk double, allowing them to go six points clear at the summit.

The inclusion of new Dutch coach Rini Coolen has so far proved to be a masterstroke move by the Adelaide board as they remain the only undefeated side in the competition ahead of Monday's clash with bottom-placed club Sydney FC.

In other Week A-League news, Wellington Phoenix stretched their unbeaten run at Westpac Stadium to 23 matches when they defeated North Queensland Fury 2-1 on Friday night, whilst the Brisbane Roar recorded the biggest win of the season thus far when they demolished new club Melbourne Heart 4-0 at Suncorp Stadium on Saturday.

The other Saturday night game involved Newcastle Jets ansd Melbourne Victory who played out a scoreless draw and Sydney FC were held to a 1-1 draw by Gold Coast United on Sunday.
