Adelaide's Salley to Gold Coast if Asia deal becomes a no-go

Adelaide United midfielder Jonas Salley could be on his way to Gold Coast next season. The Ivorian-born Australian citizen has had a tough season with the Reds, being left out of the side on regular occasions despite holding solid form throughout.

Gold Coast United have made a play for the 26-year old who is also attracting interest from clubs in Korea and China and if a deal with an Asian club does not go ahead, Salley will remain in the A-League with the new franchise.

"If he doesn't go to Asia, he will come to us," Gold Coast coach Miron Bleiberg revealed yesterday in the Courier Mail.

Salley starred in Adelaide's preliminary final win against Queensland Roar on the weekend and Bleiberg confirmed a deal would be done if he decided to stay in Australia.

Bleiberg telephoned Salley's agent, Lou Sticca, at half-time to seal the deal.

"I'm not pressuring him about making the decision between us and Asia. We can wait until June for his answer," Bleiberg said.

But the Coast will not have to wait that long, with Salley expected to announce his plans soon after his Adelaide side does battle with Melbourne Victory in Saturday night's grand final at Telstra Dome.
