Adelaide’s Leckie ticking all the boxes
Adelaide United coach Aurelio Vidmar believes youngster Mathew Leckie is ticking all the boxes but may not yet be ready for international duty.
The 18-year old winger has emerged as a World Cup bolter after impressive performances in the A-League this season and Vidmar admits he has a quality player on his hands.
“He's not ready for that (World Cup) but funnier things have happened," Vidmar said. "If you want to call it throwing a joker into the pack, he probably ticks all the boxes at the minute.
"He's just got some raw, natural talent and some power, some speed and every time he stands up to defenders and starts running at them, I think in a way they are having a massive panic, because he gets past them very easily.”
Despite all the accolades, Vidmar concedes that Leckie still has plenty of improvement in him but has backed him to become one of the greats.
"There's a few areas he needs to work on, his first touch, his final pass in the front third and if he just gets a little bit more composure in front of goal he's going to be an absolute superstar,” he added.

So are we going to stipulate a maximum price in his next contract so that we can sell him for peanuts to the first overseas club that comes along who then sells him one season later for megadollars? I agree with Mike Cockerill's comments in today's SMH. Australian clubs are taken for a ride by greedy players and agents. The sooner Australian clubs get tough the sooner they will be taken seriously and get "market value" when they sell their players to overseas clubs. Congratulations Con Constantine and Newcastle Jets on your stance in the Griffiths saga. If only all clubs did the same.
