Adelaide’s Galekovic still holds World Cup hopes

Adelaide United goalkeeper Eugene Galekovic is still holding onto hopes of making the Australian World Cup squad.

Adelaide United goalkeeper Eugene Galekovic is still holding onto hopes of making the Australian World Cup squad.

The Reds shot-stopper has stiff competition for the second and third positions in Pim Verbeek’s 23-man squad but says he will do everything in his power to get an opportunity.

“I’m not counting myself out – I’ll do anything to go to the World Cup,” Galekovic told Goal.com.

“I think it comes down to other goalkeepers and if [Adam] Federici and Brad Jones play consistently in the championship they’re going to be ahead of me.

“If they’re not then the door’s open and I think an A-League ‘keeper has a chance of making it.

“I’ve just got to keep doing what I’m doing last year and if those boys aren’t playing, I’m a chance.”
