Adelaide United goalkeeper Eugene Galekovic has revealed he is a solid chance to sneak into Pim Verbeek's Australia squad for the upcoming World Cup.
The dual A-League Goalkeeper of the Year took the gloves for the Socceroos' final Asian Cup qualifier against Indonesia on Wednesday and although he did not have much to do, he admits that keeping a clean sheet cannot do his chances any harm.
"It's good to have nights like that, but it's hard as well because you have to focus for 90 minutes, and you don't want to make a mistake or else it will be a blunder," Galekovic said.
"It's one of those things. You have to stay focused, even though the ball is down the other end you have to stay focused for 90 minutes. One slip up can cost you a lot of things, so it's mentally draining when you're out there, even though you're not doing much you still have to stay focused."
And the 28-year old revealed that Verbeek said he had a decent chance of being one of three gloveman to get on the plane for South Africa in a few months time.
"We had a chat before the game and he (Verbeek) went through the other keepers and how they're going in Europe and gave me a little indication that I am a chance," Galekovic added.
"He just said keep doing well for Adelaide, there's no promises but if things fall into place then I'm a chance."
