Adelaide continue to samba

Cristiano's signing finalises a formidable foreign contingent for The Reds, Cristiano joining Diego, fellow new signing Alemao and injured Club Champion Cassio.

Cristiano has spent the past decade playing in the demanding Dutch first division (which also included a brief stint with Swiss club FC Basel) and at just 26 years of age, he comes to Adelaide with seemingly plenty of good football and goals in front of him.

Adelaide United Coach Aurelio Vidmar believes Cristiano is an extremely exciting acquisition for the club who has what it takes to be a stand out in the Hyundai A-League.

"Cristiano is someone who impressed us and he can put his chances away,'' said Vidmar.

"He's scored goals at the highest level against Ajax and PSV Eindhoven (Holland) and he's definitely got the credentials to be one of stars of the A-League."

In his time in the Dutch first division, Cristiano has averaged a goal every four matches and Vidmar says his experience in Europe will bring a different perspective to the game, which would be highly beneficial to the squad.

"He's not your average type of Brazilian, he was brought up in the European environment and we think he will definitely bring something unique to the team," Vidmar said.

"He can play in a number of roles. As an out and out striker or a high-wide player in front of the midfield, his pace and game awareness are great," Vidmar added.
