Adelaide coach Vidmar wary of Mariners fighting qualities

Third-placed meet fourth in Round 7 of the A-League, with the Central Coast Mariners travelling to Adelaide for a very important match. Recently the Reds have been the talk of the A-League due to their Asian Champions League performances but the Mariners will be coming to knock them off and take home three points as coach Aurelio Vidmar is aware. He said, "It's going to be a really big battle for us because the Central Coast is a physical team. They're not flashy or brilliant but they play good tough football and that's the way Lawrie (McKinna) has instilled their football and they have been doing it very well. They wiped Perth Glory off the floor with some great goals and they've got some dangerous players." As the Mariners sit fourth on the table with only one loss, the Reds are just one point above them and Vidmar understands just how important a win will be. "We really need to be focused, prepared for a physical fight and if we can match them in that aspect I think we're good enough to get the three points," he added. Last week, Adelaide enjoyed a home victory over the Newcastle Jets to move them within a point of the top two, and although that performance released some domestic pressure, Vidmar knows that improved showings can only hold them in good stead. "It was really important that we got the three points against Newcastle. We're in the same situation on Friday where we're playing at home and we need to get the three points to give us a bit of freedom to be amongst the top two in the competition," Vidmar added further. "We really need to go out there, give everything that we possibly can, take the three points and then worry about what's going to happen on Wednesday." Wednesday being the Asian Champions League semi-final first leg clash against Uzbek outfit Bunyodkor at Hindmarsh Stadium on October 8th. The Reds will still be without vice-captain Lucas Pantelis for Friday nights A-League clash whilst the Mariners will be missing goalkeeper Mark Bosnich who strained a hamstring last week.
