Adelaide chief Ciccarello backs Vidmar to succeed

Adelaide United chief executive Sam Ciccarello has backed coach Aurelio Vidmar to lead the club out of its current poor position. The Reds suffered a 2-0 home defeat to the Newcastle Jets on Saturday which kept them on the bottom of the A-League table and although Ciccarello admits the team is at rock bottom, will keep faith with Vidmar to get them back amongst the other teams in the competition.

"Viddie's shown he's got the qualities of being a successful senior football manager," Ciccarello said. "But he understands and all at the club understand we've all got a role of improving the standards. We certainly need to take stock of our environment.

"We're not performing to the level we should and we've got to think about embracing that accountability."

Ciccarello said the club would employ Leading Teams - sports leadership and mentoring company - to tray and tap into the brains of the players and officials in a bid to improve things.

"We'll be looking at all the critical issues over the next four or five weeks," he said.

"Leadership, the cultural issues, relationships and ability.

"Leading Teams specialises in aligning teams through a value-based approach. They're highly-trained program facilitators who focus on open dialogue and open relationships, leadership and accountability.

"The immediate focus is the coaching staff and the players," Ciccarello added. "The Leading Teams model establishes a clear behavioural framework to enable that constructive dialogue."
