Adebayor: I told Tottenham to sign Real Madrid midfielder Diarra

Emmanuel Adebayor admits urging Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp to sign Real Madrid midfielder Lassana Diarra.

There was talk during negotiations with Manchester City that Adebayor was holding off on the move as he wanted Spurs to prove their ambition.

And he revealed to the People: "I told Harry I would only come if Tottenham could be competitive. He told me he'd do all he could to keep Luka Modric and maybe bring in Lassana Diarra, which didn't happen in the end, but we have many big players like Van der Vaart, Defoe, Pavlyuchenko and Bale.

"I would have stayed at City if Tottenham hadn't come in. If some Turkish team had wanted to double my wages I wouldn't have gone. I wanted to stay in the Premier League."
