Adams: Whittingham will be great for Portsmouth strikers

Portsmouth boss Tony Adams is pleased to have club legend Guy Whittingham as part of his coaching staff.

Whittingham's 48 goals in the 1992-93 season are etched in the club's history books.

Adams feels the nous which saw him plunder that kind of return will be invaluable to the likes of Peter Crouch, David Nugent and Kanu.

He told The News: "I'm delighted Guy's on board. I've been a man short for a long time. He was presenting my B licence for the FA.

"He was a big player for this club and scored a lot of goals. I see him being with me and the first team on a daily basis.

"I can see him doing some offensive sessions and maybe some wing play. I want him involved every day, but I see his main role being between Ian Woan and the first team, picking up some of the talent coming through.

"He'll be working in the development area and with the reserve team. Obviously, he'll be with me on match days.

"I'm delighted he's come in."
