Tony Adams is set to take over at Portsmouth should Harry Redknapp accept a move to Newcastle United.

The Mirror says Adams has already been sounded out about taking over from Redknapp, who spent two hours with Fratton Park chief executive Peter Storrie yesterday. Storrie said: "If Harry wanted to leave Portsmouth Football Club he would be the first to come and see me and Sacha Gaydamak but that has not happened.

"I feel sorry for Harry because it is putting him under pressure and it is the sort of thing that quite frankly gets me angry.

"The club has received no approaches for the services of our valued manager Harry Redknapp. He remains as committed as ever to this football club. He recently signed a new improved four-year contract with Portsmouth."
