Accrington Chief executive Rob Heys has assured fans their Crown Ground pitch will be ready for the Carling Cup tie on August 9.

There had been suggestions that Burnley’s Turf Moor may be required for the cup-tie against Scunthorpe as an alternative venue to allow for the £30,000 pitch improvements to be completed.

These claims were denied by Heys, who told the Lancashire Telegraph: "That's the first I have heard of it.

"We are on course and are planning to play a youth team game on there on the Friday before the season just to get people into the swing.

"The pitch is not a million miles away from being ready and it will certainly be right for the Scunthorpe game."
