AC Milan midfielder Andrea Pirlo has revealed he received an offer from Real Madrid after last year's World Cup.

"During Calciopoli there was talk of a move to Real Madrid, but I opted to remain with Milan," he explained.

"In my career I have always tried to improve day after day. I think that in a game it is important to block off the opposition's moves and, although it is not in my characteristics, I try to do everything I can to help the squad.

"I have been working on this for many years and always attempting to do better each time."
