AC Milan striker Alberto Gilardino won't give up hope of breaking back into Roberto Donadoni's Italy squad.

"For me the National team is a wonderful thing, I have lived the experience of the World Cup, I won the European U21 Championship, I won a bronze at the Olympics," said Gilardino. "Wearing the jersey of the National team is a beautiful thing.

"I know to make Donadoni select me I need to play well for Milan, to play and get goals. I hope to be called again in the future."
