Chelsea will have to splash around £50million if they want to lure Alessio Romagnoli from AC Milan.

The Sun is reporting that Blues boss Antonio Conte is still in the market for new defenders despite spending £34m on David Luiz in the summer.

Romagnoli, 21, is seen as a star of the future having already impressed for the Rossoneri and the Italian national team and it is understood that Conte is eager to bring him to Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea were unsuccessful with a £35m offer for the former AS Roma centre-back and Sampdoria loanee in August but the West Londoners are expected to return with a fresh proposal in January.

With veteran John Terry on the way out, Chelsea are keen to sign a promising young central defender who will operate in the heart of their defence for the next decade.
