AC Milan veteran Nesta admits: I am nearing the end

AC Milan defender Alessandro Nesta has dropped a retirement hint. The veteran admits the end is nigh as far as his playing days are concerned.

"We're almost at the end," he told Sportmediaset. "I don't want to be dragging myself around the pitch, so will evaluate my physical condition.

"I have received a great deal from football in my career and I want to end it on a high."

He will celebrate his 35th birthday on March 19 and started his Serie A career in 1993.

Nesta could well call it a day at the end of the current campaign, which sees Milan leading the Scudetto race.

"I think the Champions League will take away the strength Inter needed to keep up with us.

"We made a mistake against Bari but, thankfully, so did they with Brescia, so the gap at the top remains the same. The derby will be decisive."
