AC Milan are making Porto midfielder Fernando their main target for the January market.

With Rino Gattuso still sidelined and Massimo Ambrosini struggling for form, Milan coach Massimiliano Allegri wants a new defensive midfielder signed to complement veteran Mark van Bommel.

The Dutchman is likely to leave at the end of the season and Allegri wants to bring in a young, dynamic midfielder to lift the energy levels of his engineroom.

Fernando fits the bill and Corriere dello Sport says the Porto ace is ahead of Real Madrid's Sami Khedira in Milan's thinking ahead of the January market.
