AC Milan legend Cesare Maldini believes GM Adriano Galliani has always wanted Pippo Inzaghi as head coach.
The primavera coach is expected to succeed Clarence Seedorf this summer.
Maldini remarked: "Pippo has been given a great opportunity and I send him my congratulations.
"I am not surprised, Galliani is the one behind the deal and he has always thought of Pippo as being suited to the Rossoneri job.
"He needs to be good at teaching the young players, while with the senior players he needs to have a dialogue with them and know how to push the right buttons.
"Through the course of his career, Pippo has always been someone who talks to everyone. He did a great job with the Primavera team and that has now taken him to the first team."
