AC Milan goalkeeper Diego Lopez says his demotion for Gianluigi Donnarruma is in part due to injury.

Lopez has been benched for the past three games.

And he revealed: "For four months I've been living with a tendinopathy patellar I've tried to cure, in silence, working hard together with the medical staff of the club.

"During this time I made every effort to be in top condition, sacrificing myself every day, despite the pain, to be available to the coach.

"Unfortunately the pain persists so I have to stop and start specific treatment. This is the only solution to solve this problem."
