AC Milan goalkeeper Christian Abbiati has enjoyed successful knee surgery.

"Milan would like to communicate that Abbiati was operated on today in Antwerp by Professor Marc Martens," a statement on Milan's official website reads.

"The player's cruciate ligament in his right knee was reconstructed and the operation was a complete success.

"Abbiati's recovery time is estimated to be between five and six months."
