AC Milan vice-president Adriano Galliani admits a move for Montpellier defender Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa is off.
The French defender had been the prime target to strengthen the back four after Alessandro Nesta and Thiago Motta left this summer.
"Montpellier turned down our offer and we cannot reach an agreement for buying the player," said Vice-President Galliani.
"Therefore, the case is closed, with no regrets or bitterness. We have already identified other targets, but I won't tell you who they are even under torture!"
