AC Milan chief Galliani: Serie A needed Inter to beat Chelsea
AC Milan vice-president Adriano Galliani was delighted to see Inter defeat Chelsea in the Champions League.
Galliani admits Serie A risked losing a Champions League place if Inter had suffered elimination.
He said: “To be exact, I have explained what the consequences can be on June 30, 2011 if the German clubs were to overtake us in the UEFA co-efficient at the end of this season.
“In 2011 whoever finishes third in Serie A goes in the preliminary rounds and misses the holiday, while the team that finishes fourth is relegated to the Europa League. But we're crossing our fingers.
“Inter have done well. It's for the common good. Look, I support Milan, let's not get confused. But in Europe I support the Italian teams.
“It would be self-destructive to be against them. Also because it's essential that Juve and Inter make progress in Europe.
“I have also said so to the lads in the dressing room."
