AC Milan chief Galliani plays down defensive signing claims

AC Milan vice-president Adriano Galliani has played down talk of a return to the transfer market for a new centre-half.

"We have many defenders who can play in the middle. Daniele Bonera, Digao, Dario Simic as well as Paolo Maldini," insisted Galliani when asked if this meant going back on to the transfer market.

"I also made a proposal to Carlo Ancelotti: try Ambrosini as a centre-back. I think Ambro would make a great defender, as he is strong in the air and very intelligent. We've spoken to him about it and he is ready.

"We should learn from overseas sides, as in an emergency situation they just change positions. After all, we did the same thing with Andrea Pirlo and you all saw the results."
