AC Milan captain Riccardo Montolivo praised goalkeeper Christian Abbiati after their Champions League qualifying victory over PSV Eindhoven.

Abbiati produced a series of desperate saves on the night.

"I think we deserved qualification, though at times you can happen to lose matches like the one at Verona, as these are dips in character," the captain told Sky Sport Italia.

"Today we could've won by a mile, but at a certain point we ran a huge risk. Thank goodness for Abbiati!

"There shouldn't be a difference in mentality when we approach a Serie A game or a Champions League tie, but unfortunately there is different motivation.

"We made up for the defeat at the Bentegodi, so that performance must not be repeated. We can't fall into the same mistakes."
