AC Milan captain Riccardo Montolivo defended coach Massimiliano Allegri's team selection after defeat at Champions League opponents Barcelona.

Allegri surprised many by leaving Mario Balotelli on the bench for the first half.

"The Coach chose the best line-up, then Balotelli came on and did well, playing with the right spirit. He can do so much more when he plays like that," said Montolivo.
