AC Milan boss Sinisa Mihajlovic says selling Stephan El Shaarawy to AS Monaco was the right decision.

The striker completed the move earlier this week.

“I think it was the best thing for El Shaarawy considering our new system, the 4-3-1-2. It's only right that after two difficult years he can find new motivation and play in his preferred role. I saw him motivated and I hope he can prove what he can really do.

“We'll see what happens with Romagnoli. Its true €25m is a lot of money for a young player who has the potential to become very good. Unfortunately it doesn't depend on us, but the club will try again and we'll see.

“The club knows what we need to improve and we are in total sync on both reinforcements and the reduction of the squad. The priority is the defence."
