AC Milan ask Werder Bremen about Mertesacker

AC Milan have sounded out Werder Bremen for defender Per Mertesacker.

The Germany international is seen as an alternative at Milan to Roma centre-half Philippe Mexes.

During talks over Edin Dzeko, Milan have also asked Werder about Mertesacker's availability. The Bundesliga giants are willing to sell for £12 million.
