‘Absurd’ fitness levels required just to survive in the Premier League – Arsenal star Wilshere

Jack Wilshere has commented on the amount of fitness work required to simply survive in the ever-demanding Premier League.

The Arsenal midfielder has spent a lot of time in the gym while recovering from various ankle injuries and is well-versed on the type of work it takes to flourish at the top.

Speaking to Men's Fitness magazine, England international Wilshere highlighted the importance of being at your physical peak in today's game.

"The intensity of the Premier League is incredible," he said. "The levels of fitness you have to reach just to survive in it is absurd.

"When you're out for a few months it's tough to come back. It takes a lot of work in the gym with the physios, the specialists, you're willing to try anything that will help you get fit. "We get weighed every week. We get regular DEXA scans to check our muscle mass and body fat levels. There's no hiding place."
