Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich has given the green light to signing Atletico Madrid striker Sergio Aguero. The Mirror says Abramovich has given the go-ahead to make a massive £40 million splash for the Atletico Madrid attacker and his Stamford Bridge chiefs are due to have a summit meeting with Aguero's agents in the next few days.
The pressure is on to close the transfer because Inter Milan - led by former Blues boss Mourinho - have emerged as rivals and Chelsea want to iron out a couple of snags and seal the agreement with all parties in the next few days.
One potential problem is that the South American star may have to settle for a pay-cut to join Chelsea because of British tax laws, but that could be sorted out in the imminent discussions.
And while the struggling Spanish outfit are willing to sell and give their blessing to the deal, they want Portuguese full-back Paulo Ferreira to be part of the package.
Chelsea's offer is in, with only the fine print to be agreed, and their figures are much higher than Inter's. Mourinho's club are keen on Aguero but want to do swaps or pay the straight cash 'on the drip.'
