Liverpool reserves coach Gary Ablett was happy to give two of his new players from the academy - Gary Mackay-Steven and Steven Irwin - games in the friendly victory over Southport on the weekend.
"Steven came with us for the final two months of last season and settled in very well. He's an amiable character who always walks around with a smile on his face.
"Gary has only been with us a week and he's a bit quieter but he'll come out of his shell.
"You've seen here that they've both got ability and they'll both fit into the group well. They held their own.
"The more we get them on the training field, the more they'll start to understand the tactical movements we're after."
