Italian Football Federation president Giancarlo Abete says they do not want to lose coach Cesare Prandelli.
Prandelli is expected to leave the post after the World Cup.
"There is a belief that our relationship with Prandelli can continue," Abete told Calciomercato.com.
"Our position is very clear. We believe Prandelli has done a great job looking at results.
"We finished second in the European Championships and third in the Confederations Cup, all during a difficult period for Italian football.
"He has also introduced important values to the team."
