Aberdeen trial Republic of Ireland striker Lapira

Lapira, who played for United States minnows Baton Rouge Capitals in 2007, also had a brief spell training with Rangers last summer which was cut short by a calf injury.

The 21-year-old was selected by Toronto FC in the Major League Soccer 'superdraft' last week.

He won his only cap so far for Ireland in last May's match against Ecuador in New York, becoming the first amateur to represent the Republic since 1964.

Lapira was born in Louisiana and qualifies to play international football through his Irish mother.
