Aberdeen players given December challenge

Aberdeen boss Jimmy Calderwood wants his side to challenge for third place in the SPL by taking maximum points from all four matches this month. "Hearts have a difficult game with Motherwell and Dundee United will have it tough up at Inverness," he said.

"We have to win our match and hope that they slip up. We have got to give ourselves a platform so that if we are not in third position by the beginning of the new year, we are at least very close to it.

"Our target has always been to finish third and we should have been in the third spot by now but we have let ourselves down on too many occasions.

"Every game is difficult but we haven't been on a run like Hearts and Dundee United have. Hopefully it is our time now and we can remain unbeaten going into the new year."
